In Guildford this week: Ghostpoet, Phantom Limb…

Quite a busy week for Guildford starting tonight at Rubix. Ghostpoet takes his Mercury Prize-nominated record Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam to the student masses with support from Alt-J and Bobbie Gordon.

Later in the week sees Phantom Limb play a headlining show at the Boileroom on Thursday. The busiest day of the week though is Friday; Entro-P at the Star Inn, Paul Carrack at G Live, Turbogeist at the Boileroom and a plethora of artists including Hipslinky at Rubix.

There’s also a double dose of indie pop at the Star Inn tomorrow with The Revelators and Red Kites and The Little Ones are this week’s Sunday Club artist at the Boileroom.

Richmond Fontaine to play the Crypt in March

The next gig being promoted by People Independent Music, following on from Sam Amidon and Summer Camp last year, is Richmond Fontaine. These guys are veterans of the alt. country circuit (so long as you don’t deplore the name of that particular genre) and their most recent release, The High Country, has received plenty of critical acclaim. Their gig will take place on the 19th March at Angel’s Wine Bar (otherwise known as The Crypt) and tickets are only available from going directly to People Independent Music.

Newton Faulkner returns to Guildford

Newton Faulkner, who has become one of the biggest success stories out of ACM, will return to Guildford as part of a nationwide UK tour. He’ll be playing material from his third album, scheduled for release later this year, at G Live on the 25th April as well as his older classics. Tickets go onsale this Friday morning at 9am through the usual major ticketing outlets.

Turning Plates to play the Boileroom for free in April

The Boileroom, as you may or may not know, does some Sunday Club events where you turn up with an instrument and jam with their house band for free. They also put on performances by other artists and the booking of Turning Plates caught my eye. Their music is quite intriguing and well-produced so it’ll be interesting to see how it fares in a live environment. They’ll be appearing on the 2nd April.
