Odds & Ends: 4th February 2010

Here’s some stuff that happened!
Glastonbury have been busy adding some new names to their line-up. This week has been a mixed bag. To counter the news on Monday that Jack Johnson will play the Pyramid Stage, Michael Eavis went out of his way to announce the remaining two headliners. He said that booking Muse was essentially a done deal and that they will headline the Saturday night. The Sunday night, if all goes to plan, should be headlined by Stevie Wonder. This is a pretty inspired booking and one that has come out of nowhere really, as it was rumoured that Coldplay were the most likely act to headline after Muse. The other headliner is U2, a booking that was confirmed a few months back. Anyway, you now have a reason to try and get tickets the second time around.
Blink 182 have sparked new speculation that Reading and Leeds might be a part of their touring plans this summer. Drummer Mark Hoppus told MTV: “We go to Europe in August for all the festivals… we do, like, six weeks out there, and then our album will come out probably early next year.” Now, I know that Sonisphere and V Festival also happen in this month but if you were to make an educated guess, then Blink 182 supporting Green Day at Reading and Leeds would be the most tantalising prospect and most sensible guess.
The Flaming Lips will be performing the whole of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon at Bonnaroo this June, which will surprise probably no one.
Miserablist Charlie Brooker has spent the last two weeks on Newswipe making fun of all the ’silly’ things that N-Dubz do, like appear on political shows for no real reason, and angrily send abusive text messages to people people that contradict their anti-bullying stance. From now on, N-Dubz will be forever known on this blog as N-Dumb.
Radiohead have just got Twitter. There is also an account for Thom Yorke but it isn’t yet verified.
Massive Attack have released a promo video for Splitting The Atom, which you can see here. They’ve also said that they are hoping to get a new EP out in May in an exclusive interview with Steve Lamacq on BBC 6music.
The Great Escape have announced the first wave of acts to play the three-day event in Brighton. The highlights of the first batch are Broken Social Scene, Marina And The Diamonds, Slow Club, Esben And The Witch, Delphic, Crystal Fighters, Ellie Goulding and Japandroids. The event takes place from the 13th-15th May and Musical Chairs will once again be heading there to cover the event.
There was something called the Grammys last weekend and it did well according to TV ratings.
Finally, Them Crooked Vultures will be playing the opening night of the annual Teenage Cancer Trust concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. The gig takes place on the 22nd March and tickets go onsale at 9am. There are also other bands playing and you can find information about these concerts here.
