Hot Chip – One Life Stand

Hot Chip have spent the last ten years of their career making music to get people moving on the dancefloor, but also injecting a heavy dose of soul into their electropop. With One Life Stand, the band have gone one better, adding aspects that remind you of 90s house (in a good way) and turning the tempo a bit down, but not too much, to create an astounding dance album. Titles like Hand Me Down Your Love and Slush should convey what this album is all about but the sun-kissed melodies, thanks in part to an appearance by Trinidian steel player, Fimber Bravo, and airy waves of synth also tell the story just fine. Vocalists Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard, whilst both having contrasting voices, are still incredibly tuneful. Put simply, this is one of the albums of the year thus far, and probably even better in the summer.
