Odds & Ends: 8th January 2010

Usually at the start of the year, news is quite slow and there’s not much really much to report about. This doesn’t seem to be the case this year. As such, I’ve decided to round up some of the more interesting news in the return of Odds & Ends!
Feeder have announced their return and they’re going back to basics. The Welsh band have announced a series of intimate shows, including three in London, which you can buy tickets for. The ticket bundle allows you to get a gig ticket, their new EP called Renegades, a t-shirt, and a badge set. Some of these shows are sold out but all of these shows will see the band playing new material only. What’s more, from the sounds of Sentimental and Renegades off the EP, it really is back to where it started for them – heavy and raw.
Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor posted on his website during the Christmas break with an update. Reznor is currently still on a break from music but has said that new material is planned for this year, both Nine Inch Nails and non-Nine Inch Nails related. One of these projects, as previously hinted, should be a grand reissue of The Fragile.
The Rolling Stones have ended months of speculation…and have confirmed that they are actually not headlining Glastonbury. For weeks, the band were tipped by many to join U2 and Muse (who have been unannounced but are thought as definites to play Pilton Farm) but a post on their website quashed all these rumours. In other related news, Emily Eavis confirmed that Dizzee Rascal will follow his triumphant 2009 appearance with a slot at this year’s festival as well as the potential for much more surprises than before.
A radio rip of a new Massive Attack song, Psyche, has hit the internet. Although that now seems redundant as the album has now leaked a month ahead of its release date.
Next week on The Musical Chairs, Vampire Weekend and Cold War Kids releases get reviewed plus more Glastonbury speculation.

[...] As mentioned on the site last week, the veteran rockers announced that they were not going to headline, leaving the field wide open. This is also the first year in a while where it’s been excruciatingly difficult to predict at least one of the headliners. So who could it be? eFestivals has the following listed on its site as rumours, which by their code means that it is not completely certain that it’s true but is a possibility: [...]
