Odds & Ends for 16th October 2009

As the week comes to a close, here’s a round up of news that you may or may not care about.
Last weekend, the soundtrack for the new Twilight film, a franchise that has taken everything that was great about vampires and torn them apart to make them trendy and accessible for the ‘yoof’ of the world, leaked. The collection features songs from what is essentially a ‘who’s who’ of indie music, including names like Death Cab For Cutie, Thom Yorke, Bon Iver & St. Vincent…and Muse.
Matt Tong, the drummer of Bloc Party, has sparked more uncertainty about the band’s future, as he suggests that he might be taking a long break from music:
I wouldn’t mind trying something else for a while. We definitely need to have a break and gain a bit of perspective on life outside of the band. Hopefully if we do reconvene at some point in the future we’ll be refreshed and have so many ideas to bring to what it is we do. I definitely don’t think this will be the last you’ll hear of the people who make up Bloc Party. Kele is an insatiable workaholic and creating is something he is so connected to so you’ll definitely hear from him again along with Russell and Gordon also. As for me I don’t know, I wouldn’t mind trying something else for a while.
Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode reportedly made a foolish blunder this week when he ended a concert in Peru by saying “Thank you very much Chile!” Depeche Mode webmaster Daniel Barassi has denied this and said Gahan said “Thank you very much, good night!” but you can make up your own mind and watch the video of the incident below.
Blur are the latest star signings for the Lego Rock Band computer game. Rolling Stone has more information about the game, including a video of Blur ‘rocking out’ and the complete tracklist.
Keane are re-releasing their debut album, the surprisingly decent Hopes & Fears, on the 9th November to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their label, Island Records. It’s going to be a 2CD set with the bonus disc featuring 7 BBC Session recordings and the early single releases on both the band’s own Zoomorphic label and Fierce Panda.
C Is For (Please Insert Sophomoric Genitalia Reference Here) has just won the title of best release title of 2009 award that I’ve just made up in my head. Congratulations James Maynard Keenan of Puscifer! The name is for an EP that marks the band’s first release since 2007’s V Is For Vagina. The tracklisting includes two brand new songs, two live songs from the band’s live debut in Las Vegas, and two remixes, including one featuring vocals from Milla Jovovich and one that is believed to be remixed by, among a couple of other people, Trent Reznor:
Polar Bear
The Mission” (Renholder Mix feat. Milla Jovovich)

Vagina Mine (Alive @ Club Nokia)
Potions (Deliverance Mix)
