Who would play Matt Groening’s ATP?

The music world was stunned but also a little bit pleased when it found out yesterday that creator of The Greatest Television Show Of All Time TM, The Simpsons, and Futurama would be curating next year’s first ATP weekend. This would be the second time he has curated the festival, after picking bands for the 2003 US edition at Long Beach, California (that year featured !!!, The Shins, and Cat Power among others) and tickets go onsale this Friday. There is no doubt that he will pick a really good array of artists and bands to play on the weekend of the 7th-9th May 2010 but I wondered who he might pick. So, based on guest appearances on previous episodes of The Simpsons, who could be making their way to Butlin’s next year?
Sonic Youth – One of the more obvious guesses since they, as well as appearing in the episode Homerpalooza, played Groening’s last ATP six years ago.
Yo La Tengo – The band never actually appeared in a Simpsons episode but they did play over the credits of the episode D’oh-in In The Wind. They’d also be perfect to play there, having just released their latest album, the very decent Popular Songs.
The B-52s – The band appeared as themselves in the episode E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt), where they parodied their own smash hit, Love Shack.
Phish – Having just reformed for a triumphant year of dates, including much celebrated performances at Bonnaroo, an ATP appearance next year is possible. The Burlington band appeared in the episode Weekend At Burnsie’s.
David Byrne – Influencing so many bands that embody the spirit of ATP, as well of being in a band that did the same, he is a perfect fit. His memorable Simpsons appearance was in the episode Dude, Where’s My Ranch? when he co-wrote a song with Homer.
