A music buying survey that is actually partly interesting

Recently, Compare Download did a survey of the idiotic Great British Public (3000 18-60 year olds) about spending habits and music and the results were published today. Drowned In Sound listed the most interesting points from this survey (of which, there are many):
- The average Brit will shell out an average of £10,000 across a lifetime on music, taking in CDs, downloads, vinyl, music technology and concert and festival tickets.
- They equated this total to: £3,800 or so in physical releases, nearly £2,000 in concert tickets, £525 on festivals, £450 on merchandise and magazines and £3,190 on mp3 players and hi-fi equipment.
- One in four men admitting that more than 50% of their music collection was made up of illegal downloads.
- More men (42%) admitted to downloading illegally than women (29%).
- The average British male will spend £12,480 on music in their lifetime, while the average female will spend £9,120.
- The average male will amass a music collection of 292 albums and singles, with the average female owning 221.
- Ten will, on average, spend more than their female counterparts on music.
- Women are more likely to shop around for the best price (79%) while men are more likely to buy from the same retailer each time.
£10,000…when you think about it, it’s quite a big figure.
