Jay Reatard showed on Friday why Twitter can be so amusing by slagging off the entire of Brooklyn (and mainly The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart) based on its music scene. However, after his first tweet, which can be seen in full on the above picture, it got picked up by Stereogum and Pitchfork and Reatard responded to the press coverage with a second tweet: “Ha maybe I should say that “I have good friends who live in Brooklyn.” Ah Twitter, you’re so annoying Web 2.0 but you’re also funny. Damn this conflict!
T In The Park had a bit of drama this past weekend off the stage. The Sun reported that Kings Of Leon had once again been fighting after their Friday night main stage performance and last night Blur closed the festival albeit with a shorter set time after Graham Coxon’s food poisoning illness caused the set to be delayed by an hour and fifteen minutes.
The Financial Times is reporting that Topman and Rough Trade have reached a deal for the latter to sell records in the former. Confused? So am I, but if it makes good business sense then they can’t be blamed really. Anyways, the link up for the time being will be limited to their mega store in Oxford Street, London. If all goes to plan, the selling of records in the store will commence in October.
The Arctic Monkeys head honcho Alex Turner has said that he didn’t include the lyrics in the liner notes of their upcoming third album, Humbug, because he thought they weren’t good enough. In an interview with The Observer he also mentions his attempts to reference Duran Duran in every song: “It’s just humour. I tried to get two Duran Duran references into every second song at one point, but couldn’t manage it in the end.”
Triple J, the influential alternative radio station in Australia, has named Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana as the best song of all time. It beat off the usual suspects including Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah to the top spot in the listener-voted poll.
