Should the Grammys have a facelift? Who cares?

Grammys

Pop & Hiss, the LA Times music blog, posted an interesting blog entry, raising the argument of whether the Grammys should have a rejig following news that the Oscars will have 10 nominations in its category for Best Motion Picture and the Emmys revealing that some categories will have 6 nominations instead of 5. It’s a good, and not too long, read and I think this is a key paragraph:

A quick fix, albeit one that would likely never happen, would be to widen the album of the year category to 10 albums, and strike the number of categories from 109 to say, 30, tops (read Bill Wyman’s argument on why the Grammys should trim its categories for further on the subject). The result would force voters to create a more diverse album of the year field, and would no longer allow albums to simply be relegated to their respective genres.

Of course, this would be an amazing idea if the Grammys didn’t suck so hard that no rehaul or reimagining of the event would make it into a credible awards ceremony.
