Ornette Coleman’s Meltdown revealed

The Meltdown Festival is always an intriguing event. Every year a curator is selected and that artist then is given to the freedom to create their dream lineup of gigs and side-events on London’s South Bank. This year it is the turn of Ornette Coleman, an innovator of the free jazz movement, and the first batch of artists have been announced. Among the most noteworthy artists are Patti Smith who will play live with The Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra and Yoko Ono who will play her Plastic Ono Band. Also set to make an appearance are The Roots and Moby. The full lineup is as follows:
13th June – The Roots with David Murray, Royal Festival Hall
13th June – David Murray And The Gwo-Ka Masters, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Queen Elizabeth Hall
14th June – Yoko Ono’s Plastic Ono Band (featuring Sean Lennon, Cornelius and more), Royal Festival Hall
15th June – Baaba Maal, Royal Festival Hall
15th June – The Freewheeling Yo La Tengo, Queen Elizabeth Hall
16th June – Moby, Royal Festival Hall
17th June – Bobby McFerrin, Royal Festival Hall
18th June – Patti Smith And The Silver Mt Zion Memorial Orchestra, Royal Festival Hall
19th June – Ornette Coleman: Reflections Of The Shape Of Jazz To Come, Master Musicians Of Jajouka, Royal Festival Hall
20th June – Charlie Haden: Liberation Music Orchestra (with guests Carla Bley and Robert Wyatt), The Bad Plus, Royal Festival Hall
21st June – Ornette Coleman: Reflections Of This Is Our Music, Master Musicians of Jajouka, Royal Festival Hall
