Progress on the new Strokes album continues

The Strokes

You remember The Strokes right? They were last seen in 2006 releasing and promoting First Impressions Of Earth, easily the weakest of their three albums to date. After that, they took some time out and some even did solo project type stuff (Albert Hammond Jr. was the most ‘successful’ with two solo albums). Now the New York quintet have regrouped and started work on album number four. Julian Casablancas, lead singer, recently revealed progress of the new songs to Rolling Stone:

[the new material has] a ’70s vibe, like Thin Lizzy or Elvis Costello. But then some of it is bizarre music from the future that we’re trying to tone down to sound catchy. So we’re trapped between the future and the ’70s.

We didn’t used to be honest – there would always be mini feuds over stupid shit. Now, if Nick [Valensi] and Fab [Moretti] or anyone are saying they like it fast or slow, we’ll talk about it, as opposed to saying, ‘Well, I never liked you sister’.”

A mailout from manager Ryan Gentles has said that fans should not expect a new album this year, stating that work has only just begun on the album.
