Five Songs: Potential Reading headliners

The rumour mill is a-go go in terms of which bands will headline the three day festival at the end of August. This edition of Five Songs looks at five bands hotly rumoured and lists five songs that would slay a 70,000 strong crowd.
Basket Case by Green Day – The Californian trio are hotly tipped to headline as part of their world tour for upcoming album, 21st Century Breakdown. This classic off 1994 breakthrough album Dookie is still an instant crowd pleaser and an anthem of the decade.
Brianstorm by Arctic Monkeys – The Sheffield quartet are hotly tipped to be releasing their third album later on in the summer and are a tip to headline after being confirmed for Hove in Norway in the same month. Brianstorm is easily the rockiest song the band has ever written and is always a live treat.
Crawl by Kings Of Leon – Kings Of Leon continue their astronomical rise to worldwide superstardom with headlining festival appearances all over the place this summer and Reading looks set to be the next conquest. Crawl, a song they opened their Glastonbury performance with last year, is a dead cert to please the crowd.
Just by Radiohead – You might look at this with a “what the hell are you talking about?” look on your face, but eFestivals (who have turned out to be pretty good with festival rumours in the past) have had them as a strong rumour for ages now. You can be sure if they do headline that more ‘rock’ cuts will be thrown into the set like this hit single from The Bends.
In Between Days by The Cure – My own wildcard prediction but not necessarily for the main stage. Usually, bands that headline NME tours or big gigs in the last few years have also headlined the Radio 1/NME Tent. In what could be a greatest hits set (do you really think they’d play a new-song heavy set?), this would definitely be included.
