Odds & Ends: Review Of 2008 (Part 1)

Radiohead

Radiohead brought a part of London to a standstill after announcing a surprise last-minute gig at Rough Trade East. After too many people turned up, the gig was delayed and moved to 93 Feet East. The band finally made it on stage very late in the night and played all of In Rainbows as well as old favourites.

The Cribs went on tour in January and February and that was the start of the romance between the Wakefield trio and Johnny Marr. The Smiths guitarist joined the band for a few songs on the latter part of the tour, including at the final show at Brixton Academy.

Nine Inch Nails surprised everyone by releasing a 36-track instrumental collection called Ghosts. Numerous packages were available to buy. Lots of people bought it. Despite the album not being as great as it could have been, the exercise of release is still an excellent one.

Muse released their CD/DVD set of the Wembley Stadium shows in March called HAARP. I managed to see this in a cinema and thought it was very good and polished (although possibly a bit too over-polished and with no crowd thanks to Rich Costey). It’s just not as good at home.
