Nine Inch Nails to go into 2009 without Freese and Cortini

A few weeks ago we told you about Josh Freese leaving Nine Inch Nails to be replaced by Ilan Rubin next year. The band played their last show of the year in Las Vegas on Saturday and Trent Reznor delivered, to many fans, a punch in the metaphorical stomach. Alessandro Cortini, who has been on synths with the band since 2005 and who made without doubt the best remix on last year’s remix CD for Year Zero, will also be leaving.
So where does it all leave Nine Inch Nails for 2009? Well, Trent announced on stage that the band would be touring as a four-piece next year (I think for the first time in their history). Reznor, Rubin, Justin Meldal-Johnsen and Robin Finck will start off the year down under in Australia and New Zealand before going back to North American around April for an amphitheatre tour. For us Europeans? In an interview with Pink Is The New Blog, he explained that they will be doing festivals in the summer and that might also lead the way for some sideshows too. It also possibly re-fuels the rumour that Nine Inch Nails could headline Reading next year.
His interview with Pink Is The New Blog, which includes a smiling Trent Reznor (I’d never thought I’d see the day), can be seen below:
