Are The Smiths Reuniting? Headline #732
There are a lot of things that we are going to see in 2009. Franz Ferdinand and Eminem among other great artists will return, Blur will play a huge summer concert in Hyde Park and The Smiths will reunite. Wait, hold up. The Smiths will reunite? Yes, according to the Daily Mirror anyway. But wait? Isn’t this just another Smiths rumour that will eventually turn into dust? The daily newspaper seems really sure this time though, as they have found out through insiders that Morrissey and Johnny Marr have been talking to each other again, have settled their differences and want to reunite the influential Salford indie rockers. Cue a quote box, courtesy of Gigwise:
The very fact that they are talking again is the most hopeful thing in years. A lot of people think of them as the best thing since the Beatles. They’d fill stadiums many times over.
I’m fairly sure I’ve heard that quote before as well. Anyway, great news if it is true, but when Morrissey is releasing a new album next year with additional solo tour dates and Johnny Marr recording a new album with The Cribs, it looks highly doubtful.
