Odds & Ends for 16th November 2008

To start with, a vain piece of news about The Musical Chairs. This coming week, don’t be surprised to see not as much posts as the last few weeks. This is purely down to a hectic schedule that, amongst other things, involves three gigs (maybe four if I feel lucky). I’m also extremely excited to announce that this Wednesday might be seeing the debut of a live Twitter feed from the Death Cab For Cutie gig at Brixton Academy. More details soon, I hope.
Turns out the BBC have got their hands on long, long, long, long, long awaited new Guns N Roses album, Chinese Democracy. Guess what? It’s not total shit! However, the early reviews I’ve read have also seemed to suggest that, as I thought there might be, there are some moments where Axl Rose has gone up too far up his own arse. Expect a review for this hit and miss sounding album soon enough.
Like weird collaborations? This might be news for you! The Hives have announced a Christmas single with none other than Cyndi Lauper. A Christmas Duel is set for download release on the 28th November, and in the UK the single will be available to buy (why purchase something that’s free though?). From the statement issued by the Swedes:
It may sound weird and come as a surprise to some, but we had to. It came to us. It landed in our lap and was way too good to shake or toss. We knew we had to record it. A sign if you will.
