DJ Mujava

The back-story for DJ Mujava: Growing up on the poor streets of South Africa, where all the people he knew around him were doing time in prison and dying of drug abuse, he dropped out of school early to produce music. Now at the age of 23, the man has been a livewire on so many blogs, with many touting him as the next house sensation. His latest release, Township Funk, is a six-minute trance that is solemn yet extremely infectious due to his detached sounding tribal rhythms. Now, two years after it was first unleashed, it is finally getting a release over here on the massively influential Warp label, as well as getting regular airplay on Zane Lowe’s show on BBC Radio 1. Who knows where he might end up in a year from now, but the future is looking increasingly bright.
