Underground Railroad

Underground Railroad in action

I am a sucker for grunge, mainly due to my adoration for Nirvana. Underground Railroad, a French-originated three-piece release their second album, Sticks And Stones next Monday on One Little Indian and the reviews that I’ve seen so far all look quite positive (including an 8/10 review in the NME). Bands who wear their influences on their sleeve often sound like tribute bands of the musicians they aspired to, mainly due to a lack of confidence. This band has confidence in abundance. They play songs that combine the influences of Pixies and Dinosaur Jr combined with the loud assaults of My Bloody Valentine, and whilst you could argue it is nothing new, it’s hard to care when it sounds this good. What I’ve heard on their MySpace is encouraging me to give their album a listen in the next few days. Hopefully I’ll post a review of sorts very soon. In the meantime, I fully recommend listening to the title track from it.
